Arrests made after search warrant executed

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Monday, Sept. 23 at approximatley 1:33 p.m. the department executed a search warrant at 208 County Raod 137, apartment 3, west of Corning. The Sheriff’s Department had been looking for 37-year-old Travis Burkheart of Biggers for several days. Burkheart had several warrants for his arrest. The department received information that Burkheart was staying at the residence west of Corning. When the Sheriff’s Department entered the residene they noticed drug paraphernaila in the apartment and a male subject was seen by a Corning Police Department officer discard a black box out the back door. The Sheriff’s Department was also advised by residents of the apartent that Burkheart had just left and went into the woods in front of the apartment. Two deputies went into the woods and found Burkheart. Burkheart had a knife in one hand and brass knuckles in the other. He was told by the deputies to put the weapons down, but he refused. A deputy deplyed his taser on Burkheart and he was taken into custody.

Piggott School Board approves 2025 fiscal year budget at special meeting

Piggott School Board met in special session on Tuesday, Sept 24 in the administration office with all members present. The board approved the recommendation of Superintendent Freddie Bowen to renew the yearly contract of Davidson Facilities Consulting LLC for $8,000 and to accept the quote from Turf Renovations in the amount of $7,850 for five loads of sand to level the baseball field.
