The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Monday, Sept. 23 at approximatley 1:33 p.m. the department executed a search warrant at 208 County Raod 137, apartment 3, west of Corning. The Sheriff’s Department had been looking for 37-year-old Travis Burkheart of Biggers for several days. Burkheart had several warrants for his arrest. The department received information that Burkheart was staying at the residence west of Corning. When the Sheriff’s Department entered the residene they noticed drug paraphernaila in the apartment and a male subject was seen by a Corning Police Department officer discard a black box out the back door. The Sheriff’s Department was also advised by residents of the apartent that Burkheart had just left and went into the woods in front of the apartment. Two deputies went into the woods and found Burkheart. Burkheart had a knife in one hand and brass knuckles in the other. He was told by the deputies to put the weapons down, but he refused. A deputy deplyed his taser on Burkheart and he was taken into custody.
The Clay County Cougar 4-H Show Team made a strong showing at the NEA District Livestock Show, bringing home numerous top honors across various categories. Tuck Clayton impressed with a first place win for his Commercial English Hereford Heifer and second place for his yearling Angus Heifer.

The Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment’s (E&E) Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) issued a harmful algal bloom advisory for Heritage Park Lake in Piggott on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
Piggott School Board met in special session on Tuesday, Sept 24 in the administration office with all members present. The board approved the recommendation of Superintendent Freddie Bowen to renew the yearly contract of Davidson Facilities Consulting LLC for $8,000 and to accept the quote from Turf Renovations in the amount of $7,850 for five loads of sand to level the baseball field.
Piggott High School is marking football homecoming this week with a variety of special events and activities. The observance will conclude Friday evening at Parker Field inside Hunter Midkiff Stadium, as the football Mohawks host the Har-risburg Hornets.
