Local students earn degrees at CMU
Erica Paige Burns and Lauren Lynae Welch, both of Piggott, are recent graduates of Central Methodist University where they received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree.

Piggott Public Library offering free gift wrapping
The Piggott Public Library is currently offering gift wrapping services for the holiday season. The âelvesâ at the library will be wrapping gifts through noon Friday, Dec. 20. Event organizers noted most gifts will be wrapped, and ready for pickup, within 24 hours. And, there is no chargeâas the elves are working for donations. Those wanting additional information, and dropoff times, may call the library at 870-598-3666.
Registration open for ATU Focus Days
Arkansas Tech University has scheduled a series of preview days during the spring 2025 semester that are designed to help high school seniors plan for post-secondary academic success.

Rector Parade a success despite a cloudy sky
With a bit of Christmas jingle and the wave of a magic weather wand, the rain on Sunday, afternoon, Dec. 8, stopped and left the Rector area with a chilly, cloudy sky, along with wind, but no rain. The parade began at straight up 2 p.m. and the police cars, fire trucks, and local officials ushered in the holiday season.

Rector City Council hears presentation on digital water meter reading
In a presentation prior to the December City Council meeting on Dec. 12 at the Community Center, Mayor Shawn Brandon addressed those present and called forward Council member Lark Sigsby. He presented her with a plaque which read in part, âbecause of the person you are and the difference you have madeâ¦â in the Rector City Council.

Piggott School Board holds monthly meeting, recognizes Special Olympic Bowling Team
The Piggott School Board met in regular session on Tuesday, Dec. 10 with members Fallon Winscott, Kristen Crittenden, Jacob Richardson and Rob Chandler in attendance. Board member Jennifer Rahn was absent.
Rector School Board meets, closes out 2024 business
The Rector School Board met in a limited session on Monday, Dec. 9, at 5:30 p.m. and closed out the 2024 business.
