Casey and Jade Simpson named Clay County Farm Family of the Year
TheArkansas Farm Family of the Year Program has honored agricultural families across the state for 78 years. This year, the program has selected Casey and Jade Simpson of Rector as the recipient of the 2025 Clay County Farm Family of the Year award.
Clay County Judge gives update on activites at QC meeting
The Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session on Monday, May 19 in the Piggott Courthouse with justices Dennis Haines, Patrick Patterson, George Lowe, David Hatcher, Brad Green, Neal Smith and Jody Henderson in attendance. Justices David Cagle and Randy Kingston were absent.

Clay County 4-H Youth Leadership Team finishes up school year
Clay County 4-H Youth Leadership Citizenship Team Finale The Clay County 4-H Youth Leadership Citizenship Team has been busy as they finished up at the end of their school year. The team met at Clay County Electric in Corning for their March monthly meeting where their workshop focused on cover letters, resume building, thank you letters, and interviewing skills by Alicya Danielle Watson, M.S., Program Associate Community, Workforce & Economic Development- U of A Division of Agriculture Research & Extension CEA.
Powhatan State Park to host workshop
Powhatan Historic State Park will host a Victorian Watercolor Painting Workshop on Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join park staff to learn how American Victorians used watercolor painting to brighten up their homes. Participants will learn the basics of watercolor painting and leave with their own artwork. The registration fee covers the cost of materials. Please wear work clothes and bring a sack lunch. Space is limited and reservations are required. There is a $15 registration fee.
Local schools to participate in USDA Summer Feeding program
Once again this year, both the Piggott and Rector School Districts are taking part in the USDA Summer Feeding program. Under the federally- funded effort, all those under the age of 18 are provided free meals at local schools. The meals are the same for all children regardless of family income, race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. No registration is required for those attending.
