Special Olympics Arkansas Area 1 began its torch run on Monday, May 19, with the torch being carried by local law enforcement. Officers from all over the state will carry the Flame of Hope in their cities from which the iconic flame will make its way to Little Rock.
1985 Combined baccalaureate and commencement excercises for the Class of 1985 at Piggott High School will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at the high school gymnasium. There are 67 members of this year’s graduating class.

Rector School District recently received a generous donation for their weekend backpack program from Cargill Cotton Company as part of their Cargill Cares initiative.The Cargill Cotton Company is the exclusive buyer of cotton from producers such as Graves Gin at Hargrave Corner. “Donations such as this keep our backpack program alive and make it possible to send weekly food bags home with students who can benefit from the additional support.We are so thankful to be partnering with Cargill again to help students and families in our community,” commented RES Principal Mark Manchester. Darrell Simpson, 78 of Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025 at Lakeside Nursing Home in Lake City, Arkansas.
