Pageants for all age groups are planned in conjunction with the upcoming Piggott Fourth of July Picnic and Homecoming. As they have in recent years, organizers will host the first four pageants the evening of Thursday, July 3, with the remainder held on Friday, July 4.
This year’s writer-in-residence at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Education Center is Mississippi native Snowden Wright. A graduate of Dartmouth College and Columbia University, Wright’s interest in becoming a writer started at a young age as he was always reading. He has three published novels which have been well received.
Todd Watson of Rector has announced his candidacy for the office of Clay County Judge.
On June, 24, Judy Cox Phillips, daughter of the late Doris and Camilla Cox, donated items she had digitized of her mother’s articles to the Piggott Public Library. The articles include three collections of obits from the 1960’s through 2017. There is also a collection of marriages and all the articles Cox had written for the Times-Democrat. Cox wrote the column “Piggott History Relived” for several years for the Clay County Times-Democrat before her passing.
The Piggott Cemetery Association has announced this year’s Grand Marshal and awarded the honor to Jim Poole. He has worn many hats around Piggott as a businessman and he is also quite the historian.
Piggott City Council met in regular session on Monday, June 23 at city hall with council members Jeff Benbrook, Tracy Cole and Jamey Parks present. Councilman Kevin Jones was absent.
Emma Langley of Piggott along with guitarist Allen Wooldrige of Paragould will be performing at the Ford Room inside the Rector Community Museum on Friday, July 18.
The family of David E. and Helen Simpson of Boydsville, Arkansas will host a family reunion from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on July 5 at the Rector Community Center. All family members are welcome to come visit and have lunch.
