The 83rd annual Seay family reunion will be held Sunday, Aug. 31, in the Family Life Center of the Rector First Baptist Church, located at the corner of Stewart and 2nd Streets. All family and friends are invited to joinin for a potluck meal, singing and great family fellowship. The Mills family reunion will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 at the Rector Community Center located on Hwy. 49. The 2012 Rector High School boys basketball team, has been named to the Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2025. They will be inducted at the annual RHSSHOF luncheon on Saturday, Saturday, Aug. 30. The other inductees this year include former Blackcat athlete Terry Lovelace, class of 1982 and former Blackcat athlete Marvin Whitney, class of 1981.

Black River Area Development Corporation has announced the Summer Entergy Assistance Program will close Friday, Aug. 29, 2025. Program coordinators report applications for Summer Energy Assistance will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for Clay County residents at the BRAD Senior Center, 1403 Main Street in Corning. Residents may also apply online by emailing liheap@bradcorp.org or visiting bradcorp.org/utility-assistance/. In turn, the applications will be processed until Sept. 30, or until funds are depleted.
Runners and walkers are being recruited for the annual Rector Labor Day 5K Run/Walk, set for 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30. The event, which benefits the RHS Helping Hands Foundation, will begin in front of the Rector High School gymnasium.
The Piggott Mohawk golf teams began their season with a victory Thursday, Aug. 14 as they played host to the Rector Cougars at the Sugar Creek Country Club.
