Seay family reunion planned Aug. 31

The 83rd annual Seay family reunion will be held Sunday, Aug. 31, in the Family Life Center of the Rector First Baptist Church, located at the corner of Stewart and 2nd Streets. All family and friends are invited to joinin for a potluck meal, singing and great family fellowship. Snacks will be served at 11:30 a.m. and the potluck meal will be served around 1 p.m. Those wanting more information may call Ralph Seay at 870-530-9488 or Paul Seay at 479-970-0696.

Old Timers Dinner planned at Nimmons

Organizers of the annual Nimmons Old Timers Dinner note it’s that time of year again. This year’s dinner will be held beginning at noon on Sunday, Aug. 31, at the community center. Current, and former, residents of the Nimmons area are invited to attend, and bring a dish for the potluck meal. They’ll also be accepting donations at the door, with the proceeds going toward the continued upkeep of the Nimmons Cemetery.

Tickets available for Labor Day $1,000 drawing

With the approach of the Labor Day holiday, the Woodland Heights Cemetery Commission is once again conducting a $1,000 drawing as a fundraiser. The drawing will take place on Monday, Sept. 1, on the main stage at the Rector Memorial Park following the Miss Rector Pageant. Persons do not have to be present to win. Once again this year tickets are $1 each, six for $5 or 25 for $20. Tickets will be available the day of the picnic and are also available at several area businesses. Rector businesses include The Caffeinated Cow, Centennial Bank, Glen Sain Motor Sales, GPS Chiropractic, Graves Gin, Piggott Pharmacy, Piggott State Bank-Rector Branch, Rector Downtown Drug, and Z’s Salon.

Marvin Whitney named to 2025 RHSSHOF

Former Blackcat standout athlete Marvin Whitney, Rector High School class of 1981, has been named to the Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2025. He will be inducted at the annual RHSSHOF luncheon on Saturday, Aug. 30. The other inductees this year include former athlete Terry Lovelace and the 2012 boys’ basketball team.

95th Annual Greenway Picnic held

Cooler temperatures and a nice breeze greeted those attending the 95th annual Greenway Picnic held Saturday, Aug. 2. The picnic is traditionally held on the first Saturday of each August, with the proceeds benefiting the continued upkeep of the Mitchell Cemetery. In a recent picnic planning meeting, board members and those in attendance voted unanimously to change the 96th Annual Greenway Picnic to be held in 2026, as well as future picnics, to the first Saturday in October.
