The annual McDougal Homecoming Picnic is set for Saturday, Aug. 30, at Edna Cooper Park along U.S. Highway 62.
Runners and walkers are being recruited for the annual Rector Labor Day 5K Run/Walk, set for 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30. The event, which benefits the RHS Helping Hands Foundation, will begin in front of the Rector High School gymnasium.
With the approach of the Labor Day holiday, the Woodland Heights Cemetery Commission is once again conducting a $1,000 drawing as a fundraiser. The drawing will take place on Monday, Sept. 1, on the main stage at the Rector Memorial Park following the Miss Rector Pageant. Persons do not have to be present to win. Once again this year tickets are $1 each, six for $5 or 25 for $20. Tickets will be available the day of the picnic and are also available at several area businesses. Rector businesses include The Caffeinated Cow, Centennial Bank, Glen Sain Motor Sales, GPS Chiropractic, Graves Gin, Piggott Pharmacy, Piggott State Bank-Rector Branch, Rector Downtown Drug, and Z’s Salon.
Michael Kevin Jones, 66, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away August 6, 2025, at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Former Blackcat standout athlete Terry Lovelace, Rector High School class of 1982, has been named to the Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2025. He will be inducted at the annual RHSSHOF luncheon on Saturday, Aug. 30. The other inductees this year include former athlete Marvin Whitney and the 2012 boys’ basketball team.
Three Clay County 4-H members showcased their talents and determination at the 2025 State 4-H O-Rama held at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville on July 21 through 24. The four-day event, themed “Clover Quest: A Gathering of Champions,” brought together youth from across the state for competitions, workshops, tours, and fun-filled activities.
The Piggott High School cafeteria was packed on Monday, July 28 as a large crowd of athletes, parents and teachers showed up for the yearly “Beat the Heat” meeting held for those students participating in outdoor events.
Powhatan Historic State Park will host a Trial by Jury on Saturday, Aug. 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. Join park staff and become the judge, part of the jury, a lawyer, or maybe even the accused as they bring a court case from Powhatan’s history to life. No acting experience is needed, but participants should come ready to dive in and interact with each other. Space is limited and registration is required. Registration fee is $25.
