Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum holds informational community meeting
The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center held an informational community meeting on Monday, Aug. 18 regarding the National Heritage Area System. The meeting was held at the Matilda and Karl Pfeiffer Museum.
Piggott City Council meets, declares council vacancy
The Piggott City Council met in regular session on Monday, Aug. 25 with council members Jeff Benbrook, Tracy Cole and Jamey Parks present. Mayor Bradley Scheffler was absent.
Clay County Fair nears, parade set for Sept. 9
The Clay County Fair will be held Tuesday through Saturday, Sept. 9 through 13, at the fairgrounds in Piggott. Keeping with recent tradition, the annual pageants will be held in conjunction with the fair Saturday, Sept. 6, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the Baby Mr. and Miss Clay County pageants, and will continue throughout the day. Former Piggott Chief of Police Jeremi Wicker dies at 48
The City of Piggott was saddened by the loss of former Chief of Police Jeremi Wicker, Sunday, Aug. 24, at the age of 48.
HPMEC to host poetry workshop
The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center will hold a poetry workshop in the educational center on Saturday, Nov. 8 with limited seating. HPMEC is an Arkansas State University Heritage Site at 1913 Museum Row, formally known as 1021 West Cherry Street in Piggott.

Adalyn Younger recently selected for Delta Youth Symphony Orchestra
Adalyn Younger, RHS freshman, is the young clarinetist who achieved All-Region position in 2024. More recently, Addie, daughter of Allan and Meagan Younger, was one of three selected out of 18 who auditioned for the Delta Youth Symphony Orchestra. The event was held Sunday, Aug. 24 at the ASU Fine Arts building.

BRTC president seleced as finalist for Arkansas Executive of the Year Award
Black River Technical College (BRTC) President Martin Eggensperger has been named as a finalist in Arkansas Business’s 2025 Executive of the Year Award. President Eggensperger, entering his sixth year leading the technical college, is one of six finalists in the publication’s state-wide nonprofit category. The winner will be announced during the Arkansas Business Executive of the Year Awards ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Statehouse Convention Center in downtown Little Rock.
HPMEC plans reading retreat
The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center in Piggott will host a reading retreat on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., lunch provided. The reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sugar Creek Country Club.
