GED program offered, open house set Thursday in Piggott

Going “back to school” does not mean what it once meant. The phrase does not need to strike terror in the heart of a person who met with trouble, trauma, or other roadblocks while attending conventional public school in quest of a high school diploma. Unless a person has experienced setbacks, trauma, or academic difficulties unaddressed by traditional studies, he/she cannot possibly know the reluctance a person feels when confronted with “going back to school.”

Piggott School Board approves numerous items at monthly meeting

Piggott School board met on Tuesday, Sept. 9 with all members present. Motion was made and the reading of the previous months minutes were waived and the financials was accepted. Teachers Cassie Knight and Jerri Tate gave updates on the achievements of The Odyssey of the Mind and art classes. A special meeting was set for Sept. 22 to approve the 2026 fiscal year budget and reports on given on the school year thus far by the principals.

BRAD announces closing of assistance program

Black River Area Development Corporation has announced the Summer Entergy Assistance Program will close Tuesday, Sept. 30 2025. Program coordinators report applications for Summer Energy Assistance will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for Clay County residents at the BRAD Senior Center, 1403 Main Street in Corning.
