A Piggott home was destroyed in an early morning fire that claimed the life of Mike Howell on Wednesday, Sept. 3 Firefighters were called to the home of Howell at 256 S. 7th Avenue at 5:12 a.m.

The City of Piggott recently was the recipient of a $499,950 Community Development Block Grant for water system improvements. Piggott Mayor Bradley Scheffler was among the recipients from the Arkansas communities who attended the awards ceremony Thursday, Aug. 21 at the Governor’s Conference Room in Little Rock. Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and the Arkansas Economic Development Commission presented the grants during the ceremony.
