Powhatan State Park to host leatherworking workshop
Powhatan Historic State Park will host a leatherworking workshop on Saturday Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join park staff to learn how to work leather into decorative pieces. This beginner friendly class will teach foundational skills that can be used for an advanced class. Participants will leave with their own creations. Space is limited and registration is required. Powhatan State Park plans Great Arkansas Cleanup Day
Powhatan Historic State Park will host a Great Arkansas Cleanup Day Saturday Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Each year the Great Arkansas Cleanup welcomes participants to join park staff in keeping the Natural State as beautiful as pos-sible. Russell announces candidacy for U.S. Senate
LITTLE ROCK, AR — Arkansas small business owner, veteran, mental health advocate, and former candidate for Arkansas governor, James Richard Russell III (Rus), officially announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate on Wednesday, Aug. 27, in the rotunda of the Arkansas State Capitol at 500 Woodlane St. in downtown Little Rock. Russell, a Democrat, is running to challenge incumbent Senator Tom Cotton in the 2026 election.
Maynard Pioneer Days scheduled
The 45th annual Maynard Pioneer Days is set Thursday, Sept. 18 through Saturday, Sept. 20. They’ll kick things off this year with “School Night” at 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Pioneer Park and Museum. The festivities continue on Friday with a chicken ‘n dumpling or hamburger plate served at 5 p.m., baked goods contest, auction and a free concert by Finley Watkins at 7 p.m. The annual parade is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday. There will also be crafts, concessions, blacksmithing demonstrations, bounce house and music from Dixon Street. Those wanting additional information may call 870-6472701.
