James Earl “Jim” Harmon left this earth on March 24, 2025, at the age of 95 years, 3 months, and 24 days.
Jim always said that he would like to go to sleep and just not wake up. Instead, the good Lord gave him one beautiful sunny morning. He waved hello as he awoke, or maybe he was waving goodbye. He passed away peacefully at his granddaughter’s home in Brookland.
Jim was born on November 28, 1929, at home around the Nimmons Community to Raymond and Mary Alma (Sisk) Harmon.
Jim gave his life to the Lord. He was saved and baptized in the nearby river at an early age. He married Mary Louise Eubanks on October 25, 1947, and to this union three children were born.
Jim was a member of the Rector First Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer. Farming first at Nimmons then located to McDougal to farm in the 50s.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Harmon; youngest son, Earl Harmon; three brothers, Winifred Madison “Mac” (Cora Ann) Harmon, Lonnie (Edna) Harmon, and Norma Harmon; brother, Raymond Harmon, who died in his youth; son-in-law, Gayle Garver; and great-granddaughter, Lottie White.
Surviving are two of his children, Lynda Garver and Dennis (Debbie) Harmon; grandchildren: Gayla (Dennis) Davis, Tabitha (Neal) White, Kelly (David) Parish, Andrea (Jon) Cooper, Jamie (Thomas) Cook, Doug (Lisa) Harmon, Amanda Myhre (friend, Michael Massey) and Wes Harmon; great-grandchildren: Kitty (Heath) Hatcher, Joseph (Ashlee) Davis, Jacob (Leandra) Davis, Jeffrey (Brianna) Davis, Daniel (Rena) White, Chelsea Parish (Josh Bach), McKenzie Parish, Paylee Myhre and fiancée Cody, Piper Myhre, Chloe Cooper, Katie Cooper, Kaden Reeves, Shawnee Latimer and fiancée JD Travis, Alexis Harmon and fiancée Garrett Robinson, Lane Harmon, Jagger Harmon, Korbyn Cook, Ebbi Fuwell, and Henry Harmon, and Mary Claire Harmon; great-great grandchildren, Walker Johnson, Riley Hatcher, Jazzlyn Davis, Aubrie Davis, Drew Hatcher, Emily Davis, Harlee Davis, Lilith Davis, Wells White, Sabbath White, Sutton White, Pierson Bach, Curran Bach, Ryder Bach, and soonto- be, Sadii Bach, multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and cherished friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 28, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Laramie LeQuieu officiating and Daniel White assisting. Burial followed in Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway, Arkansas. Pallbearers were Roger Baxter, Wes Harmon, Doug Harmon, Jeffrey Davis, Daniel White, and Kaden Reeves. Honorary pallbearers were Sonny Rigdon, Virgil Rice, John Haney, and Richard Petty. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of arrangements. Visitation was held from 12 to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
