Dallas Leon Pollard

Dallas Leon Pollard, 91, of Piggott, Ark., passed away January 26, 2023, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.

He was born on November 22, 1931, in Pollard, Ark., and was the son of the late Layton and Elma (Webster) Pollard.

Dallas was united in marriage to Charlene Walter on August 25, 1950.

After marriage, he lived many years in Bloomington, Ill. and Columbus, Ohio, working at General Electric and Ideal Dispenser Co. Later he moved back to Boydsville, Ark., where he worked as a carpenter for Phines Green and as a contractor for Cox Lumber Company. Dallas was longtime and devoted member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church serving the church as deacon, song leader, and Sunday school teacher and he also built the new church building. He also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, watching baseball and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years; parents; infant brother, Douglas Pollard; brothers, Don Pollard, Charles Pollard, and Carl Pollard.

Dallas is survived by his two daughters, Julia (Ed) Winberry of Piggott and Debbie (David) Harrell of Piggott; son, Dennis (Phyllis) Pollard of Iola, Texas; five grandchildren, Michael (Amber) Harrell, Mark (Michelle) Winberry, Melissa (Sam) Williams, Erica (Terry Don) Key, Amanda (Chris) Boring; great-grandchildren: Karsen, Cade, Kaitlin, Micha, Kiley, Colt, Kalysta, Mychiah, Aaedynn, Camdynn, Kaylin, Carter, Tucker, Hudson, Brooklynn; great-great grandchildren: Vivian and Brooks; sister, Eugenia Williams of Piggott; sisters-in-law, Una and Betty Pollard of Piggott, and Martha Walter of Iowa; brother-in-law, Tommy (Anita) Walter of Boise, Idaho; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were be held at 12 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2023, at the Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Piggott with Bro. Mike Book, Bro. Scott Small, and Bro. Jerrod Lowe officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery in Pollard. Pallbearers will be Terry Pollard, Chris Boring, Terry Don Key, Michael Harrell, Mark Winberry, and Sam Williams. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Monday at the church.
