Virginia C. Causey

Virginia C. Causey was actually born CoraLee Virginia Wagster on November 16, 1928. She never liked the name CoraLee, so she officially had her name changed to Virginia CoraLee. If you wanted to see her riled up, just call her Cory or CoraLee. She passed away February 17, 2023.

She was raised in the hills just west of St. Francis, born to Ira D. and Georgia (Gills) Wagster, who preceded her in death, along with two brothers, J.D. Wagster and Boyce Wagster, and one sister, Delois (Wagster) Mobley. She would say she was the only one left, she out-lived them all.

She worked various businesses around town, including Hamra’s Department Store and Brown Shoe Factory until it closed. After that, she worked at the Piggott Nursing Home for a short period, where she once mistakenly put false teeth in the wrong lady’s mouth. Her last occupation was delivering meals for Brad Senior Centers, which she enjoyed. When she no longer delivered the meals, she continued going to the center “to see those old people.” She never claimed to be one of them. Virginia loved everything about Christmas – shopping, decorating, and hiding gifts. She made sure her three children and later her grandchildren had lots of presents under the tree. She also was a very good candy maker. She made lots of old fashioned fudge, turtles, pralines, coconut bonbons, peanut butter balls, and especially divinity. No one could make divinity like her. And she loved sharing it with all her friends and family, fixing big trays loaded with each kind. Everyone has missed these treats since her health declined.

She was a feisty, independent, strong woman-clear up to her mid-eighties, when she fell and broke her hip, which led to her needing some extra help. She decided to move into Magnolia Manor. She would say, “It’s a good place. All the people are good and they have good food too! All we have to do is eat, sleep and sit and they do all the rest.” She was a people person. She didn’t spend much time in her apartment, because she might miss someone coming in or going out. If you went to the Manor you could always find her sitting in the same spot in “her chair.” If she got out of it for anything and come back and someone was in “her chair,” they usually got up and moved right quick. You never had to wonder what she was thinking, because if she thought it, most likely she said it.

She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she loved serving in the nursery and kitchen, as long as she was physically able.

She was a good Momma to three children, Larry Causey (Shelly), Sherry Galyean (Darrell) and Steve Causey (Belinda). She was a good Memaw to five grandsons, Brice Scott, Dustin Causey (Lindsey), Kris Causey (Makenzie), Chase Causey (Mallory), and Chance Causey. Three step grandchildren that she treated like her own, Tabitha, Clayton, and Jessica. She was a greatgrandma to Adalynn, Mercella, Gwendoline, Eastin, and Cannon, and one on-the-way in May. She has one sister-in-law, Mary Evelyn Wagster. She was Aunt Ginny to all her nieces and nephews. A blessed family to have had her in their lives for so many years.

A celebration of life was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at the Hoggard & Sons Chapel in Piggott, with Bro. Kevin Murray officiating. Burial was in Gravel Hill Cemetery in St. Francis. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements. Visitation was from 12 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
