Onis Lee Bearden, 78, of Eudora, Kan., passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Homestead of Eudora.
Onis was born on March 22, 1945, in Boydsville, Ark. He was the son of Omer and Thelma Louise (Tucker) Bearden.
Onis served in the United States National Guard.
He was a member of the Overland Park Baptist Church in Overland Park, Kan.
He worked at Uarco/ Communicolor as a Maintenance Engineer where he retired. He later went to work for the Desoto School District because he was bored with retirement and enjoyed working with preschool children who referred to him as “Mr. Onis” and would often make sure he had cookies on his desk when he arrived to work.
He received his private pilot certification in Kennett, Mo., and loved taking family and friends on adventures.
Onis always had a big smile, a passion for riding motorcycles, boating, riding three and four-wheelers and a love for trading cars and trucks. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He married Sharon Kay Hart on November 20, 1964, in Boydsville. They moved to Eudora, Kan., in 1989 and she survives at home.
Other survivors include his daughter, Christina (Keith) White, Eudora, Kan., his two sons: Terry (Danielle) Bearden, Tonganoxie, Kan., and Mike Bearden, Eudora, Kan.; six beautiful grandchildren: Meagan (Lewis) Cox, Brian (Jamie) White, Drew Bearden, Aleya Bearden, Kobi Bearden, and Cooper DaGrava and was blessed to have five great-grandchildren that held a very special place in his heart, along with his sister Nancy Loveless, Rector, Ark.
Onis was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Charles, Bobby, Viola, Mary Jo and Johnny.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2023, at Eudora Cemetery in Eudora, Kan.
The family suggests memorials in Onis’ name to the Alzheimer’s Association and may be sent in care of Warren- McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
