Geneva Thomason Holifield

Geneva Thomason Holifield, 91, of Jonesboro, passed from this life on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born in Lonoke, Ark., on March 29, 1932, to the late Roy Thomason and Girthel (Pike) Thomason. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Jonesboro.

Geneva graduated from Rector High School where she was a four-star letterman and captain of the basketball team. She and her husband raised their family in Rector, and later moved to Texas where she worked as a department supervisor for Sears for 34 years. Following retirement Geneva moved to Jonesboro where she resided for the last 13 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Holifield, Jr.; her daughter, Kathryn Shepard; four brothers, Winfred, Cecil, Herman, and Harrell Thomason; and one sister, Billie Nowlin.

Survivors include her daughter, Beverly (David) Daniel of Jonesboro; son, Edward Holifield, III of Decatur, Georgia; stepdaughter, Sherian Holifield of Jonesboro; son-in-law, Dave Shepard of Jonesboro; three grandsons, Stacey (Dawn) Benson, Matt (Jennifer) Daniel, and Josh (Nicole) Daniel; six great-grandchildren, Alexis (Chase) Garner, Halee Benson, Finley Daniel, Bauer Daniel, Steele Daniel, and Brett Daniel; one greatgreat granddaughter, Sterling Garner; and one sister, Winnie (Jerry) Middaugh.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Monday, June 19, 2023, at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jay Jacobs officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will be private. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time on Monday.
