Mills family reunion set Aug. 30 in Rector

The Mills family reunion will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 at the Rector Community Center located on Hwy. 49. A potluck meal will be served at 11:30 a.m. “Bring food, drinks, friends and family and we hope to see you there,” commented a family member. Ford Room audience treated to pork steak and cowboy anthems

The Ford Room audience knew all the songs played by newly named band Southern Grace who performed for a satisfied group who had just dined on huge pork steak, slaw, baked beans, deviled eggs, tea, and dessert. Charlie Cooper took the microphone early in the show and Terry Rousch performed with both keyboard and guitar. Gary Cremeens led the band and provided percussion excellence. Steve Goins continued to impress audiences with vocals and tremendous guitar skills. Brent Long played bass guitar and sang “Silver Wings” to show that the entire band can sing and play.

Old Timers Dinner planned at Nimmons

Organizers of the annual Nimmons Old Timers Dinner note it’s that time of year again. This year’s dinner will be held beginning at noon on Sunday, Aug. 31, at the community center. Current, and former, residents of the Nimmons area are invited to attend, and bring a dish for the potluck meal. They’ll also be accepting donations at the door, with the proceeds going toward the continued upkeep of the Nimmons Cemetery.

SALON 309 RIBBON CUTTING

A large group of family and friends joined Jessica Wilson Friday, Aug. 15 at a ribbon cutting as she celebrated ownership of Salon 309 located on 9th Street in Rector. A group of about 30 shared well wishes and laughter and enjoyed a buffet of light hors d’oeurves prepared by Nick Sain. RFUMC to host benefit event

Desserts and drinks (water and lemonade) will be available for purchase for $5 per person at the Rector Community Center multi-purpose room from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1. The event is being hosted by Rector First United Methodist Church with all proceeds benefitting the Woodland Heights Cemetery. Tables and chairs will be set up to provide a cool, comfortable opportunity to visit with friends and family. Free drink refills will be available.

HPMEC to host poetry workshop

The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center will hold a poetry workshop in the educational center on Saturday, Nov. 8 with limited seating. HPMEC is an Arkansas State University Heritage Site at 1913 Museum Row, formally known as 1021 West Cherry Street in Piggott.

Tickets available for Labor Day $1,000 drawing

With the approach of the Labor Day holiday, the Woodland Heights Cemetery Commission is once again conducting a $1,000 drawing as a fundraiser. The drawing will take place on Monday, Sept. 1, on the main stage at the Rector Memorial Park following the Miss Rector Pageant. Persons do not have to be present to win. Once again this year tickets are $1 each, six for $5 or 25 for $20. Tickets will be available the day of the picnic and are also available at several area businesses. Rector businesses include The Caffeinated Cow, Centennial Bank, Glen Sain Motor Sales, GPS Chiropractic, Graves Gin, Piggott Pharmacy, Piggott State Bank-Rector Branch, Rector Downtown Drug, and Z’s Salon.

Car Show planned at McDougal Picnic

The McDougal Annual Homecoming Picnic will host a Car Show for cars and trucks on August 30 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. There will be a $25 dollar entry fee that includes one hamburger and soda.
