RECTOR’S FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
Desserts and drinks (water and lemonade) will be available for purchase for $5 per person at the Rector Community Center multi-purpose room from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1. The event is being hosted by Rector First United Methodist Church with all proceeds benefitting the Woodland Heights Cemetery. Tables and chairs will be set up to provide a cool, comfortable opportunity to visit with friends and family. Free drink refills will be available.

The Mills family reunion will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 at the Rector Community Center located on Hwy. 49. A potluck meal will be served at 11:30 a.m. “Bring food, drinks, friends and family and we hope to see you there,” commented a family member. NEW TEACHERS AT RSD
Cooler temperatures and a nice breeze greeted those attending the 95th annual Greenway Picnic held Saturday, Aug. 2. The picnic is traditionally held on the first Saturday of each August, with the proceeds benefiting the continued upkeep of the Mitchell Cemetery. In a recent picnic planning meeting, board members and those in attendance voted unanimously to change the 96th Annual Greenway Picnic to be held in 2026, as well as future picnics, to the first Saturday in October.
Former Blackcat standout athlete Marvin Whitney, Rector High School class of 1981, has been named to the Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2025. He will be inducted at the annual RHSSHOF luncheon on Saturday, Aug. 30. The other inductees this year include former athlete Terry Lovelace and the 2012 boys’ basketball team.
The City of Piggott, and much of the surrounding area, continues to mourn the death of city councilman and former business owner Kevin Jones.
The City of Piggott recently welcomed a new permanent Drug Take Back Box as part of the Arkansas Drug Take Back initiative.
