QC hears update on county roads, bridges

Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session on Monday, July 21 at the Piggott courthouse with Justices Dennis Haines, Patrick Patterson, David Hatcher, Brad Green, Randy Kingston and Jody Henderson present. Justices David Cagle, George Lowe and Neal Smith were absent.

Piggott Parks and Recreation to host co-ed softball adult fall league

Piggott Parks and Recreation will be hosting a co-ed softball adult fall league on Monday nights beginning Aug. 11. Ages for the league is 16 and up and format will be 6/4 (must play with four girls minimum). Cost is $200 per team and last day to register is Friday, Aug. 1. Greenway Picnic set Saturday

The 95th edition of the annual Greenway Picnic, held each year to fund the continued upkeep of the beautiful Mitchell Cemetery, is set for this Saturday, Aug. 2, at the community’s picnic grounds. As usual, the 2025 picnic will officially kick off at 9 a.m. with the opening ceremonies on the grandstand, and activities will continue throughout the day. In keeping with tradition, there will be food stands, games, bingo, novelties and rides for the kids. A corn hole tournament with beginners and advance brackets is set for 11 a.m. east of the grandstand. There will be live entertainment throughout the day by JR Rogers and the All-Star Band.

Sign-ups underway for Piggott co-ed softball tournament

Sign-ups are underway for a co-ed softball tournament set for Saturday, Aug. 30 in Piggott. The event will be held at the Piggott City Field and will consist of a 3-game minimum. A 7-3 format (must have at least three females on the field), will be in place. Cost for the tournament is $200 per team. Student registration planned at PHS

Piggott High School will host new student registration for the upcoming school year from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 4 Parent/guardian must bring their student’s birth certificate, social security number, and two proof of residency (utility bill, etc. postmarked within the last 60 days).

Gramling receives degree from MTSU

MURFREESBORO, TN — Middle Tennessee State University is congratulating the students who received their degrees at its spring 2025 commencement ceremonies, including Stefan Gramling of Piggott, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Animation.

Rector salons plan free back-to-school haircuts

Salons in Rector will be providing free back-to-school haircuts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9. Those participating include Z’s Salon, Salon 309 and Rector Barber and Style. The event is for Rector students only and no appointment Is necessary.
