The annual Ryan Rogers Chili Cook-off and Supper was held on the customary last Saturday in February with over 26 entries of chili, soup, and jambalaya that fed over 170 diners. The late Ryan Rogers won the community center’s first chili cook-off with “fat man chili,” his famous recipe that included a bit of brown sugar.
Isn’t it funny how you wake up one morning expecting your day to go one way when in return it plays out totally differently? Last Tuesday, when I arrived at the Pocahontas Star Herald office, situated in a 1900 train depot just a couple of hundred feet from the banks of the flowing Black River, I took a seat at my desk and began to get things situated for my day. Being the editor of the paper is a job I love, however, it’s my role as the editor-inchief of Arkansas Crossroads that really gets my creative juices flowing.
The Piggott Mohawks hosted the Rector Cougars on a windy Monday afternoon in both teams’season opener. The game was all Cougars from start to finish as the Mohawks struggled with pitching and had a hard time getting a bat on the ball against Rector’s pitching.
The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum & Educational Center in Piggott has announced dates for its upcoming event, ‘The Garden of Eden’ Reading Retreat and Banquet, May 10-11. ‘The Garden of Eden’ is one of Hemingway’s most perplexing novels.

All Black River Technical College (BRTC) campuses will be closed on Monday, April 8. All online classes will meet as normal.
The Ozark Folk Center State Park is offering a variety of classes in crafts such as Knife Making, Gardening, Blacksmithing, Yarn Spinning, Stained Glass, Letterpress Printing, Pottery and more during the Spring Ozark Folk School in March 2024.
Rector Athletics will host a dinner and silent auction Saturday, March 9 at the Rector First Baptist Church Life Center honoring the Rector High School football team with a ring ceremony. The silent auction is being held as a fundraiser to help pay for the purchase of the rings. Those interested in donating items for the auction or monetary donations may do so by contacting Nate Henderson at Rector High School. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for the silent auction exhibit followed by a pork steak or chicken dinner with all the fixings at 6 p.m. at $10 per person. The ring ceremony is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
