Great places in Arkansas to enjoy the eclipse

Except for Piggott, which will experience three minutes and 13.7 seconds of totality and Rector, which will experience three minutes and three seconds of totality, the following are other places in Arkansas where you can enjoy the eclipse. All of the Arkansas towns listed below are in the path of totality for the 2024 solar eclipse, which cuts a wide swath through the middle of Arkansas. Each has its own personality and attractions that make it a town worth visiting. Make one of them your hub to watch the eclipse so you can stay and play from dark to day. Each city offers a variety of things to do before and after the big eclipse moment.

Just in time for the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, Arkansas State University is announcing the installation of the Voyage Model Solar System on the campus. “The awe-inspiring exhibition will take visitors on an interplanetary journey through an incredibly detailed model of our solar system, offering a captivating glimpse into the wonders of space,” according to R.

Seal settles in as head baseball coach

If you’ve been to any sports events in Piggott over the past 24 years, chances are you’ve seen 1995 PHS graduate, Billy Joe Seal assisting in any way he could. From coaching little league baseball, peewee basketball and peewee football to being a referee for basketball and football games over the years, his love for sports has been undeniable to anyone that knows him.

Ring ceremony set for football team

Rector Athletics will host a dinner and silent auction Saturday, March 9 at the Rector First Baptist Church Life Center honoring the Rector High School football team with a ring ceremony. The silent auction is being held as a fundraiser to help pay for the purchase of the rings. Those interested in donating items for the auction or monetary donations may do so by contacting Nate Henderson at Rector High School. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for the silent auction exhibit followed by a pork steak or chicken dinner with all the fixings at 6 p.m. at $10 per person. The ring ceremony is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Jerold Ray Cooper

Jerold Ray Cooper, 84, of Piggott, Ark., passed away February 7, 2024, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott. Jerold was born on January 6, 1940, in Corning, Ark., and was the son of Cecil and Samantha (Hart) Cooper.
