Lady Mohawks punch ticket to Regionals

When district rivals Rector and Marmaduke, separated by seven miles, split home and away games in the regular season, the pressure is on during a matchup in the early round of the 2ADistrict Tournament. That’s what the boys’ contest came to on Monday night, Feb. 12, at the Bay Yellowjacket gym, host for the tournament.
Rector Athletics will host a dinner and silent auction Saturday, March 9 at the Rector First Baptist Church Life Center honoring the Rector High School football team with a ring ceremony. The silent auction is being held as a fundraiser to help pay for the purchase of the rings. Those interested in donating items for the auction or monetary donations may do so by contacting Nate Henderson at Rector High School. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for the silent auction exhibit followed by a pork steak or chicken dinner with all the fixings at 6 p.m. at $10 per person. The ring ceremony is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Jerold Ray Cooper, 84, of Piggott, Ark., passed away February 7, 2024, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott. Jerold was born on January 6, 1940, in Corning, Ark., and was the son of Cecil and Samantha (Hart) Cooper.
Autumn Dawn Benson, 48 of Gatewood, Mo., passed from this life on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at her residence. She was born on January 9, 1976 in Kennett, Mo., to Kenneth E. and Rita Jean Scott Lawrence.
The Rector High School chapter of the FFA will host its annual dinner and auction beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17. The event will be held at the Rector Community Center and all funds generated will benefit the local chapter. Organizers noted donations for the auction are also still being gathered, and are appreciated.
