The following materials are now available at the Rector Public Library.
The 95th edition of the annual Greenway Picnic, held each year to fund the continued upkeep of the beautiful Mitchell Cemetery, is set for this Saturday, Aug. 2, at the community’s picnic grounds and will feature the traditional slate of beauty pageants.
The City of Piggott held a Grant Signing Ceremony for the City’s Water Department on Wednesday, July 16. Many employees, local and state officials were on hand to celebrate an award through the Arkansas Community and Economic Development Program, with assistance from the East Arkansas Planning and Development District.This will fund significant improvements to Piggott’s water infrastructure. This investment will enhance service reliability, support future growth, and ensure safe and sustainable management of our community’s water resources. (Courtesy photos)
Piggott Parks and Recreation will be hosting a co-ed softball adult fall league on Monday nights beginning Aug. 11. Ages for the league is 16 and up and format will be 6/4 (must play with four girls minimum). Cost is $200 per team and last day to register is Friday, Aug. 1. Black River Area Development Corporation will hold a public meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29 in regards to Public Transportation for 2026. The meeting will be held in person at 1403 Hospital Drive, Pocahontas and virtually.

L&L Manquest, Joshua, Tara, Levi, Lucas White and Pilot, the family from Nevada who touched the hearts of Piggott residents as well as people across the United States, returned to Piggott for a visit on their way home. Friends the family made while here earlier gathered at the Clay County Fairgrounds on Thursday for a meet and greet question and answer session to hear about their adventures since leaving Piggott.
The Piggott Community Alliance will not hold its traditional ‘Backpack Bash’ this year due to Piggott Elementary receiving funds to pay for a majority of the basic elementary school supplies, including backpacks. Rachel Jaco, a PES staff member and a Piggott Community Alliance member stated, “The community alliance will help provide some items not covered by the funds as well as some high school supplies. Elementary supplies will be delivered to classrooms and high school supplies will be available to students at open house”.
