Arkansas Commercial Truck Safety and Education Program applications available

The Arkansas State Highway Commission is pleased to announce that the next application cycle for the Arkansas Commercial Truck Safety and Education Program (ACTSEP) b Thursday, February 1. ACTSEP is a grant program that funds truck safety and education efforts through cooperative public/ private programs that focus on increased enforcement, regulatory compliance, industry training, and educational programs to enhance the safe movement of goods on Arkansas highways.

Bishop to perform at Ford Room

The opportunity to experience a room filled with the sound of a distinctive voice in various genres of music belongs to anyone with a $10 ticket to the Ford Room performance at Rector Community Museum. Vicki Bishop’s voice resonates as one people want to hear over and over again. Formally trained, Bishop won the hearts of Northeast Arkansas with her performance vocal biography of Patsy Cline. Bishop’s repertoire ranges far beyond the singular torch song, the songs about “the one that got away, and the one who will never be replaced.” To box Bishop into Patsy is to stifle her performance. Neal finishes second in Greatest Baker Contest

After a furious round of voting and going from first to second place in a matter of seconds, local baker Breanna Neal fell just short of making it to the finals in the national Greatest Baker Contest. Voting was every 24 hours and votes could be free or with paid donation votes the funds went to the Be Positive Foundation for pediatric cancer.

Lady Cougars defeat Lady Greyhounds

Not only was the week of Jan. 22 filled with homecoming activities, contests, dressup days, and banner design, the neighborhood Marmaduke Lady Greyhound rivals were in the gym, ready to take on the Lady Cougar squads. Fans arrived early and ready for the Junior Class Chili Cook-off, a fund raiser for the Prom. The Lady Cougars capped the night with a 55 – 46 victory.

Cougars lose to ‘Hounds

Homecoming Day dawned at Rector High School and coronation of the King and Queen, the presentation of the court, the pep rally with skits and games occupied teachers and students. The basketball teams were focused on the Marmaduke Greyhounds who were about to contribute fans and family to the gym and the electricity was palpable. The student section wore psychedelic colors, funny wigs, and was primed for a salute to the decades with a Cougar win.
