Cougars lose to ‘Hounds

Homecoming Day dawned at Rector High School and coronation of the King and Queen, the presentation of the court, the pep rally with skits and games occupied teachers and students. The basketball teams were focused on the Marmaduke Greyhounds who were about to contribute fans and family to the gym and the electricity was palpable. The student section wore psychedelic colors, funny wigs, and was primed for a salute to the decades with a Cougar win.

Lady Cougars victorious over EPC

The Lady Cougars bested EPC Lady Warriors on a make-up game mid-week, Wednesday, Jan. 31, with Mattie McClung and Rylee Wilburn leading the charge. Wilburn’s put-backs off rebounds and great play under the basket, feeds with great passes and a few steals from McClung left the fans and the opponent reeling, the fans super excited. With good defense, made free throws, and some amazing three pointers and drives to the basket from the two leading scorers, the lopsided score of 28 – 9 ended the first quarter of play.

RES LEGO team competes at state

Advancing out of the regional competition once again, the Rector LEGO team took part in the Arkansas state competition held Saturday, Jan. 20, at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Cougars and Timberwolves battle in Conference contest

After a month of road games and weather-cancelled schedules plus a solid week of frozen roads and snow melt that had crusted, the Cougars played a home set against the Thunderbirds from Cross County in a series of conference games. The junior Cougars experienced a hot shooting night against the junior Timberwolves.

College and Career Fair held at Rector High School

Rector High School College and Career program led by College-Career Coach Kathy Fowler initiated the College-Career Fair, a first for Rector High School as host. Multiple local and areawide businesses and colleges set up displays offering oneon- one interaction, informational literature and promotional items in the mezzanine of the Rector gym.

UofA to host annual rice and soybean production meeting

The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture will host the annual rice and soybean production meeting Tuesday, Feb. 13 at the M.B.Ainley Community Center in Corning. The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. with lunch catered by Cast Iron Kitchen and Catering. Speakers for the event include Stewart Runsick, County Extension Agent-Staff Chair; Dr. Jarrod Hardke, Extension Rice Agronomist; Dr. Jeremy Ross, Extension Soybean Agronomist and Dr. Hunter Biram, Extension Agriculture Economist. NRCS will provide updates followed by industry sponsor comments.
