BRTC awarded $1.8 million grant from DOE

Black River Technical College (BRTC) was recently awarded roughly $1.8 million through the Department of Education (DOE) under the Strengthening Institutions Grant Program. The grant spans five years and will fund a project entitled, “Building the Workforce: Implementing a Career Services Program and Durable Skills Curriculum.” Through this project, BRTC will establish a comprehensive Career Services Program which will include hiring a full-time Director of Student Workforce Readiness.

Clay County Sheriff ’s Department makes arrest

On Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at approximately 8:19 p.m. the Clay County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call about a vehicle being ran off the road at the St. Francis River bridge on Hwy. 90 going toward Kennett, Mo. The department also received a description of the vehicle that had apparently run the vehicle off the road. At approximately 8:42 p.m. the Piggott Police Department stopped a vehicle that matched the description. The vehicle was occupied by one adult driver and three juveniles. After talking to those occupants, the deputy learned that some type of altercation between the occupants of both vehicles had started in Kennett and had continued into Clay County.

RES Honor Roll

The following Rector Elementary students were named to the Honor Roll for the first nine weeks: First Grade Sherry Cate’s class: Nash Blount, Lane Hunter, Christian Mero, Tommy Payne, Jamie Risner and Allison Sheets.

Annual Bluegrass Festival returns to Mountain View

Mark your calendars for Nov. 9, 10 & 11 as the Mountain View Fall Bluegrass Festival returns to the Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View for three days and two nights of traditional bluegrass and gospel music. Proceeds go to support the Music Roots Program in Mountain View Public Schools.

Junior high Cougars finish season 3-3

The Junior High Rector Cougar football team finished their regular season Friday, Oct. 14, in a contest at Midland against the Mustangs and came away with their third victory of the 2023 season, finishing with a 3 – 3 record. By the score of 40 – 6, the junior Cougars showed their running strength behind the threeback set with Austin Avery, Lawson Green, and Waylon Haynes providing the offensive punch.
