Remember the day Walmart locally introduced self-checkout registers? The world might not have been ending, but we were right there at the line of it. There were shouts of, “They don’t pay me to work here!” and “Where’s my discount card?” Honestly, I understood the frustration. It was a change we weren’t expecting — one that felt abrupt, impersonal and, for some, unnecessary.

BRAD announces winter assistance program to close

Black RiverArea Development Corporation has announced the winter regular assistance program will close on Monday, March 31. Applications for winter crisis assistance will continue until Wednesday, April 30 or until funds are depleted. Applications will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon, and from 1 to 3 p.m., on the second and fourth Mondays at the Piggott Community Center located at 161 E. Pfeiffer Street and on Tuesdays at the BRAD Senior Center in Corning located at 1403 Main Street. Those wanting additional information may call the BRAD office at 870-8108396 or 870-202-1356..

Well registration deadline set March 31

Farmers and landowners are encouraged to register their 2024 wells and relifts before Monday, March 31. For more information you may visit the Clay Conservation District/NRCS office at 168 East Main Street in Piggott or call Daniel Gosset at 870-598-2287 Ext. 3. Failure to register wells before March 31, 2025, will result in a late fee as well as the registration fee.
