Pritchett celebrates 100th birthday

Velma Pritchett turned 100 years old on Feb. 21 and was honored with a drop in birthday celebration on Sat. Feb. 22 with over 300 friends and relatives dropping by to offer their best wishes.

Piggott Elementary School will be enrolling children eligible for kindergarten for the 2025- 26 school year from 8: 30 a. m. to 2: 30 p. m. on Wednesday, March 12. The registration will be held in the PES parent center. Parents or guardians bringing a child to be enrolled should also bring their child’s birth certificate, immunization records, social security card, and a proof of residence. Students enrolling must be five years old on or before Aug. 1. Those wanting more information may contact the PES office at 870- 5982546.
PES JANUARY READERS OF THE MONTH
Piggott City Council met on Thursday, Feb. 27 with all members present and a busy agenda. Motion was made and passed to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. The motion carried unanimously.

YOUNG AUTHORS AT HPMEC
The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center has announced its 2025 theme, ‘Investing in the Community,’in recognition of Paul and Mary Pfeiffer’s significant contributions to Piggott and the broader Clay County community. Paul and Mary Pfeiffer relocated from St. Louis, Missouri, to Piggott, Arkansas, where they acquired 63,000 acres of land. Until Paul’s passing in 1950, the couple played a pivotal role in implementing numerous community improvements, including the rechartering of the Bank of Piggott as Piggott State Bank in 1930, following its closure during the Great Depression. This institution will commemorate its 95th anniversary on March 19. Everyone is invited to the bank lobby for cake on Wednesday, March 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., as HPMEC celebrates this milestone.

The Rector Cougars wore their visitor blue and the fans filled the home stands clad in “Black Out” gear. The team ran onto the court for the 7:30 tip-off against the #1 seed Riverside Rebels on Saturday, District Tournament games delayed due to inclement weather. Introduced as visitors on the scoreboard, the Cougars received a rousing cheer from the hometown crowd. The Riverside Rebels wore white.
The City of Piggott will be hosting a cornhole tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26. at the Piggott Com-munity Center. Those interested may call 870-598-2003 or email acrittenden@cityofpiggott.org. Sign-up fee is $45 per team with a 60/40 payout. A food truck will also be available during the event.
