Clay County Sheriff ’s Department makes drug arrest

Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller reported that on Dec. 6, 2022, deputies were dispatched to a male asleep behind the wheel of a truck on CR 478. Once on scene deputies were able to make contact and check the welfare of the driver. The driver was then identified as 20year-old Tyler Spray of Rector. Deputies could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the truck and there was a 9mm handgun visible between the driver’s seat and the middle console. A search of the vehicle was then done, and deputies located 263.2 grams of marijuana, 4.9 grams of a schedule 2 substance, a set of digital scales, numerous plastic baggies, and other items of drug paraphernalia. Spray was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Detention Center and is currently awaiting a bond hearing.

Rector City Council discusses condemnation of property

The Rector City Council met in regular session for its final meeting of 2022, at 6 p.m. Dec. 5, at the Rector Community Center, all council members present. In addition, Debi Boyd who will assume duties of the elected position of city clerk was present as was Shawn Brandon who will take the oath of office as Mayor at the first council meeting of the new year. Kim Romine, administrative assistant, was present to address any budget concerns or issues. In the first order of business, City Attorney walked the council through the full condemnation process as lien holders for the property at 201 E. Donaldson were discovered in routine investigation leading to condemnation. As all reasonable processes were followed to advise any lien holder of the night’s pending business, no one came before the council. The property owners were not present, though having been fully advised through all reasonable methods of the night’s business.

HPMEC now accepting applications for 2023 writer-in-residence program

Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Education Center has set the date for their 2023 writer-in-residence program. Applications are now being accepted and the selected candidate will be lodged in the loft apartment on the downtown square. Art on the Ridge set Saturday in Piggott

Art on the Ridge, the nonprofit organization that supports and promotes art and artists along the geographic area Crowley’s Ridge, will host an arts event on Dec. 10 on the Square in Piggott. The second Saturday event features live music, the performer for the event Will Whaley. A Christmas ornament decorating competition will take place with prizes. Will Whaley is spon-sored by Piggott State Bank and the ornament contest is sponsored by First National Bank in Piggott.

RFD responds to house fire

On Saturday, Nov. 26, Rector Fire Department received a call of smoke venting from a house located at 115 N. Phillips St. Upon arrival the fire had already broken through the roof. Greenway and Marmaduke Fire Departments were requested for assistance. Neighbors verified that there were no occupants at home and contact was made to the homeowner, Brandon Lind, as he was out of town. Due to construction and intensity of the fire it was a difficult it was a difficult extinguishment complicated with a complete roof collapse. Fire was controlled and extinguished and all units performed salvage and overhaul and returned to duty.

Holiday Tour of Homes to be held

The traditional Holiday Tour of Homes will be held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11. Tickets are $25 each and are limited. The 2022 tour will feature the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and the homes of Roger and Suzie Morris, Joe and Tracy Cole and Mark and Tonya Smith.
