Clay County QC meets in regular session, sheriff discusses deputy pay

The Clay County Quorum Court met on Monday, Aug. 21, at the courthouse in Corning with Justice Dennis Haines being absent. After roll call, prayer and Pledge of Allegiance the meeting started with Justice Jody Henderson making a motion to waive the reading of the previous minutes. Justice Patrick Patterson seconded the motion, and it was unanimously approved.

Mauldin recognized at BRTC

Black River Technical College (BRTC) Career and Technical Center (CTC) student/ Piggott High School senior Aaron Mauldin spent the summer working for Legacy Equipment in Piggott. Last year while Mauldin was attending the CTC program on the BRTC Paragould campus, two Legacy Equipment representatives, Whitney Watson and Daniel Vaughn, spoke to CTC students about Legacy Equipment internships and the John Deere Ag Tech program, which piqued Mauldin’s interest.

RHSSHOF golf tournament slated

The annual Rector High School Hall of Fame golf tournament is set for Friday, Sept. 1 at the Kennett Country Club. Those wanting additional information on the golf tournament may contact Michelle Haley at 870240-5064 or Michael Lindsey at 870-240-3257.

Ron Kemp to be inducted into RHSSHOF

Ron Kemp has been named to the Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2023. He is well known for his contributions to the community and to the community’s athletic programs.

Runnin’ Scared 5K set Sept. 16

The 6th Annual Runnin’ Scared 5K will be hosted at Pumpkin Hollow on Saturday, Sept. 16. The racecourse will be a mix of road and offroad running. Runners will run through a local cemetery and through the grounds of Pumpkin Hollow. “Who knows…you may find a few “friends” along the way as well! Be sure to bring your flashlights or head lamps as the race will take place after dark,” a spokesperson commented The race will start at 8 p.m. and registration is underway at www.runsignup.com/ Race/AR/Piggot/ RunninScared5k. Deadline to be guaranteed a shirt is Sept. 1.

Nimmons Old Timers Dinner scheduled for Sept. 3

Organizers of the annual Nimmons Old Timers Dinner note it’s that time of year again. This year’s dinner will be held beginning at noon on Sunday, Sept. 3, at the community center. Current, and former, residents of the Nimmons area are invited to attend, and bring a dish for the potluck meal. They’ll also be accepting donations at the door, with the proceeds going toward the continued upkeep of the Nimmons Cemetery.

CC Jr. Fair Board plans craft show

The Clay County Junior Fair Board will be hosting a craft show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, at the commercial building on the Clay County Fairgrounds. Vendor fee is set at $35 with community entry fee being a small donation to the Clay County Junior Fair Board Scholarship Fund. Small concessions will be available.
