BRTC Law Enforcement Class 2022-B graduates

Black River Technical College’s Law Enforcement Training Academy (LETA) held its Fall 2022 graduation ceremony on Friday, Nov. 18 for the 47 officers who completed the Basic Police Training Course.

Rector Cougars headed for State Championship

“I couldn’t watch,” said Heidi Henderson of the final 1:08 at Mountain Pine as the Rector Cougars faced fourth and forever in Red Devil territory, needing six to tie and the PAT to win. On this possession, the Cougars made it to the end zone twice, once on a complete pass and run that was called back to the spot where the receiver stepped out of bounds.

Tracer chosen Grand Marshal

“I love it,” said Bobby Tracer as he discussed his selection as Grand Marshal of the 2022 Rector Christmas Parade to be held Sunday afternoon, Dec 4, at 1:30 p.m., sponsored by the Rector Chamber of Commerce. Precious little in Bobby Tracer’s life does he not love.

Clay County Cattlemen’s Association holds toy drive during regular meeting

Each year, the Clay County Cattlemen’s Association meets in November and holds a toy drive to support local youth in the county. All 36 members in attendance for the Nov. 17 meeting held at the Clay County Fairgrounds brought a toy or gift to donate to the local DHS to provide gifts for children and teens for Christmas. The Clay County Cattlemen’s Association is honored to be able to provide something as simple as a toy to bring so much happiness to local youth and help them understand just how special they are.

Single parent scholarship awared to Johnson

Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund, or ASPSF, congratulates the Fall 2022 Arkansas Northeastern College scholarship recipients. Thanks to the support of local donors and state funding, ASPSF awarded scholarships to 61 single parents pursuing associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and skilled-trade certificates across Northeast Arkansas.

RES STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

Atlas Rios and Christian Mero were recently selected as the Rector Elementary Students of the Month. Atlas was described as always having a positive attitude and working hard in class. He is so excited to learn new things and his joy rubs off on his classmates. Christian was described as always willing to help anytime she is asked. She takes care of the other students in her class. Applications now being accepted for HPMEC writer-in-residents

Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Education Center has set the date for their 2023 writer-in-residence program. Applications are now being accepted and the selected candidate will be lodged in the loft apartment on the downtown square. 1982 Former Piggott resident Craig Morris is set to appear with the Ronnie McDowell show at the Paragould High School Auditorium. Boyce McCord, owner of McCord Agri-Service in Piggott, died of an apparent heart attack on Thursday, November 18.
