The Piggott Lady Mohawks swung into action last Tuesday, Aug. 8, as they hosted the Corning Lady Bobcats in their preseason game with all four teams in action.
The 6th Annual Runnin’ Scared 5K will be hosted at Pumpkin Hollow on Saturday, Sept. 16. The racecourse will be a mix of road and offroad running. Runners will run through a local cemetery and through the grounds of Pumpkin Hollow. “Who knows…you may find a few “friends” along the way as well! Be sure to bring your flashlights or head lamps as the race will take place after dark,” a spokesperson commented The race will start at 8 p.m. and registration is underway at www.runsignup.com/ Race/AR/Piggot/ RunninScared5k. Deadline to be guaranteed a shirt is Sept. 1.
The regular monthly meeting of the Piggott School Board was held on Tuesday, Aug. 8 with all board members present. Board member Jim Threatt made a motion to waive the reading of last month’s minutes, this was unanimously approved, as was the financials.
Organizers of the annual Nimmons Old Timers Dinner note it’s that time of year again. This year’s dinner will be held beginning at noon on Sunday, Sept. 3, at the community center. Current, and former, residents of the Nimmons area are invited to attend, and bring a dish for the potluck meal. They’ll also be accepting donations at the door, with the proceeds going toward the continued upkeep of the Nimmons Cemetery.

Katie Betty Sue Billings, 81, of Corning, Ark.,, passed away August 12, 2023, at the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott. She was born on July 27, 1942, in Corning, Ark., and was the daughter of the late Lewis and Genevieve (White) Barker.
Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center is partnering with the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture to present a Lunch & Learn Series at 12 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, with the topic being Butterfly Gardening. The free event is planned at HPMEC and a light lunch will be provided. For more information you may contact the museum at 870-598-3487.
At Monday night’s Rector School Board meeting, a full board was present along with Superintendent Johnny Fowler, Principal Nate Henderson, and Principal Mark Manchester. A full first day of 2023-2024 school year in the books and marked successful, the board turned to business and finance related to future endeavors.
Piggott Farmers Market is still open every Friday from 8 a.m. to noon at the First National Bank Pavilion on East Main.
