Clay County youth compete at State 4-H O-Rama

Piggott Farmers Market is still open every Friday from 8 a.m. to noon at the First National Bank Pavilion on East Main.
The Clay County Fair is set for Sept. 13 to 16, and commercial booths are now available for rental. The booths are indoor, air conditioned and include electrical hook-ups. Rental rates are just $50, which covers the full run of the fair. Those wanting additional information, or to reserve a booth, may contact Barbara Collier at 870 598-7311.
Piggott youth, Jonah Mahan, was presented lawn equipment from Rodney Smith, Jr. last week for his completion of the “50 Yard Challenge”. In addition to receiving a lawn mower, trimmer and leaf blower, Mahan was surprised to be announced as Mower of the Month for June.
Arkansas State University will host its 2023 Summer Commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug.
On Saturday, Aug. 5, to prepare for Neighbor to Neighbor Work Day which will take place on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 19, a group of N2N volunteer leaders met at Rector First Baptist (RFBC) Family Life Center. The group made a plan to work on yards and ditches that need extra mowing and weed-eating, and a plan to haul off limbs and other debris, especially along the Labor Day Picnic event’s most traveled roadways.
The Clay County Extension Homemakers will be hosting the Delta District Ice Cream Social at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the Family Life Center located on S. Taylor Avenue in Piggott. Persons are asked to RSVP by Aug. 11 to cholmes@uada.edu or by calling 870-598-2246. Hemingway-Pfeiffer group tours are also being offered on the hour for a fee of $10 for those interested. Those interested will need to note they are interested in the tour when contacting Christin Holmes.
The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum is now hosting Series 3 of The Veneto of Ernest Hemingway; Across the River into the Trees. The exhibit is comprised of beautiful black and white panels. This exhibit may be in the new exhibit room on the second floor in the museum and will be on display through August. For more information you may contact the museum at 870598-3487.
Powhatan Historic State Park, 4414 Hwy. 25, Powhatan, will host a summer workshop on sewing and quiltingfrom 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 19. Park staff will teach basic quilting techniques and the history of quilting. Learn how to how to piece together a quilt square, how to layer your quilt, and the quilt stitch. A perfect companion to the basic sewing class. Participants will leave with their own quilt square. The registration fee is $15 and space is limited.
