David Harrell David Harrell, 68, of Piggott, Ark., passed away August 4, 2023, at his home surrounded by family in Piggott. He was born on January 1, 1955, in Kennett, Mo., and was the son of the late Paul and Jean (Turner) Harrell.

The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center in Piggott will host a reading retreat on Oct. 6 and 7. The focus will be on Ernest Hemingway’s works and life. The retreat, “Hemingway in Venice,” will explore the city that enchanted Hemingway along with the screening of “Summertime.”AVenetianthemed mystery party and new exhibit opening will also be offered to those attending.
The Clay County Fair is set for Sept. 13 to 16, and commercial booths are now available for rental. The booths are indoor, air conditioned and include electrical hook-ups. Rental rates are just $50, which covers the full run of the fair. Those wanting additional information, or to reserve a booth, may contact Barbara Collier at 870 598-7311.

The Arkansas Department of Agriculture is pleased to announce the launch of the Arkansas Animal at Large online reporting form. This new reporting form was developed to implement Act 594 which was enacted during the 2023 Regular Session of the Arkansas General Assembly and will provide a state-wide method of notification of lost livestock.
The annual Clay County Fair Parade is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, and entrants are now being recruited. In keeping with tradition, the parade will begin at the First Baptist Church of Piggott, located a block west of the square on West Main Street, and will end at the fairgrounds. Line up and registration will start at 9:15 a.m. at the church and entrants are asked to be lined up by 9:30 a.m.
Piggott Farmers Market is still open every Friday from 8 a.m. to noon at the First National Bank Pavilion on East Main.
The Clay County Extension Homemakers will be hosting the Delta District Ice Cream Social at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the Family Life Center located on S. Taylor Avenue in Piggott. Persons are asked to RSVP by Aug. 11 to cholmes@uada.edu or by calling 870-598-2246. Hemingway-Pfeiffer group tours are also being offered on the hour for a fee of $10 for those interested. Those interested will need to note they are interested in the tour when contacting Christin Holmes.
Piggott youth, Jonah Mahan, was presented lawn equipment from Rodney Smith, Jr. last week for his completion of the “50 Yard Challenge”. In addition to receiving a lawn mower, trimmer and leaf blower, Mahan was surprised to be announced as Mower of the Month for June.
