Bonnie June Mazar

Bonnie June Mazar, 81, of Piggott, Ark., passed away August 1, 2022, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott. She was born on October 23, 1940, in Piggott, and was the daughter of Joe and Pearl (Conley) Cagle.

HEAVY RAINS POUND AREA

After weeks of extreme heat and drought conditions, the weekend brought the much-needed rain. However, for some areas it brought a little too much too fast and caused flooding. Many crops are standing in water and water seeped into houses. Sugar Creek flooded Clay Street and the lake at Heritage Park was over its boundaries as well but the rain didn’t deter this hummingbird (right) from visiting the feeder.

Matilda Pfeiffer: The Art of Early Photography

The Matilda Pfeiffer Museum and Inga’s Frame Shop will be co-hosting an event to coincide with National Photography Day from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19. The event will be held at the Matilda & Karl Pfeiffer Museum, 1933 Museum Row in Piggott.

D & G BASEBALL TEAM

D & G baseball team for the 2022 season played in Piggott, Marmaduke and Rector. History book of Clay County to be published

The Clay County Genealogical and Historical Society recently voted to sponsor the writing and publishing of a book length history on Clay County. The primary content of the book will be family histories.

Kentucky Headhunters to perform at fair

The Clay County Fair Association will present The Kentucky Headhunters at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Clay County Fairgrounds Arena. Special guests will be The Comancheros and Joe Bateman and the Dream Killers will be the opening act. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased at Turner Auto and Tire or by calling 870-598- 4524 or 870-598-4376. The fairgrounds are located at 658 East North Street in Piggott at the corner of East North Street and Garfield Avenue.

Clay County Fair booth rental available

The Clay County Fair is set for Sept. 14 to 17, and commercial booths are now available for rental. The booths are indoor, air conditioned and include electrical hook-ups in some spaces. Rental rates are just $50, which covers the full run of the fair. Those wanting additional information, or to reserve a booth, may contact Barbara Collier at 870-598-7311.

Dewey Darrell Shelton

Dewey Darrell Shelton, 84, passed from this life to forever be with Jesus on July 25, 2022, in Marmaduke. Dewey was born on Aug. 1, 1937, in Rector, to the late Arthur “Artie” and Gertie (Collier) Shelton.
