Greenway Picnic set for Saturday

The 93rd edition of the annual Greenway Picnic, held each year to fund the continued upkeep of the beautiful Mitchell Cemetery, is set for this Saturday, Aug. 5, at the community’s picnic grounds. As usual, the 2023 picnic will officially kick off at 9 a.m. with the opening ceremonies on the grandstand, and activities will continue throughout the day. In keeping with tradition, there will be food stands, games, bingo, novelties and rides for the kids. Being added this year is a Corn Hole Tournament set to begin at 11 a.m. and a much anticipated Pie in the Face set for 5 p.m. There will be live entertainment throughout the day by JR Rogers and the All-Star Band.

1983 Jim Berryhill and Audie Tackett have been hired as the new football coach and assistant football coach for Piggott High School. They will be teaching grades seventh through 12th.

CC Jr. Fair Board plans craft show

The Clay County Junior Fair Board will be hosting a craft show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, at the commercial building on the Clay County Fairgrounds. Vendor fee is set at $35 with community entry fee being a small donation to the Clay County Junior Fair Board Scholarship Fund. Small concessions will be available. Rector School District to host Open House

Rector School District will host Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, in both the elementary and high school buildings. Teachers, counselors, and administra-tion will be available for meet and greet and to answer fundamental questions about the curriculum, parent visitation policy, and other standard questions.

CC Fair Parade entries being sought

The annual Clay County Fair Parade is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, and entrants are now being recruited. In keeping with tradition, the parade will begin at the First Baptist Church of Piggott, located a block west of the square on West Main Street, and will end at the fairgrounds. Line up and registration will start at 9:15 a.m. at the church and entrants are asked to be lined up by 9:30 a.m.

Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum now hosting art exhibit

The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum is now hosting Series 3 of The Veneto of Ernest Hemingway; Across the River into the Trees. The exhibit is comprised of beautiful black and white panels. This exhibit may be in the new exhibit room on the second floor in the museum and will be on display through August. For more information you may contact the museum at 870598-3487.
