Pollard beauty pageants set
The annual Pollard Picnic, to benefit the New Hope Cemetery, will be held Saturday, July 1, in Pollard. As usual, this year’s picnic will include a full schedule of beauty pageants for contestants of all ages.

Danny Franklin Cates, 75, of Piggott, Ark., passed peacefully in his home, June 15, 2022. He was born on January 9, 1947, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., and was the son of Roy V. Cates and Josephine Lancaster.
Eudean Shrum Engle, born September 25, 1940, passed from this earth on June 16, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents, Pickney Shrum and Faye Shrum Fiffe; one daughter, Kim Engle Johnson and one grandson, Alex Landon Engle.
Dortha Jean Huff, 83 of Rector, Ark., passed away on June 12, 2022, at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Ark. She was born to the late Freeman and Turna (Mailer) Huff in Clay County, Ark.
Willie Dale Arnold, 78 of Piggott, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at his residence in Piggott, Ark. Willie, son of Ruth Ann Hopkins Arnold, was born on Friday, April 7, 1944 in Qulin, Missouri.
Once again Piggott will have a community garden after not having one the past couple of years due to COVID. Piggott FFA donated plants that were grown in the greenhouse and left over from the FFA sale. Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash are planted and soon there will be edamame planted. The tomato and pepper plants are already starting to produce some healthy-looking vegetables.
Returning to the Ford Room stage at the Rector Community Museum on Thursday, June 16, at 7 p.m. will be Cory Jackson, popular country artist in and around northeast Arkansas. He was named 2019 “Best Vocalist” in the “Best of Northeast Arkansas” sponsored by the Jonesboro Radio Group.
“Farming for me began when all I knew of the world was a diaper,” quipped Larry Huckabay whose family was selected as 2022 Clay County Farm Family of the Year. The Huckabay & Sons Farm cultivates 1,200 acres of rice, 1,200 acres of corn, and 475 acres of beans. The cotton farming went by the wayside in the 1970’s, shares Larry Huckabay.
