Sugar Creek Country Club hosts two man scramble

A Mother’s Day weekend tradition continued this past Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8, as the Sugar Creek Country Club hosted its annual two-man scramble. Taking first in the championship flight was the team of Daniel Gossett and Chad Stallcup, as they shot 64 and 60 the two days for a combined 124.

BRTC to offer hunting course through AGFC

Through a partnership with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC), Black River Technical College will offer a for-credit Introduction to Hunting course in Fall 2022. During the course, students will complete the AGFC’s Hunter Education Course, learn how to safely discharge a firearm, participate in multiple hunts for wild game species, learn how to field dress and clean harvested game, and learn how to prepare wild game dishes.

Free fishing days to be observed in June

Residents and nonresidents may fish anywhere in Arkansas noon Friday, June 10, until midnight Sunday night, June 12, without fishing licenses or trout permits. Regulations for Arkansas waters apply: daily limits, slot limits and length limits must be observed. An annual tradition sponsored by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and approved by Gov. Hutchinson, Free Fishing Weekend gives many people the opportunity to enjoy the amazing angling The Natural State has to offer.

COLE SIGNS WITH CRC

The Piggott High School Library was the site of a signing ceremony Tuesday, May 3, for senior Kalaya Cole. The daughter of Angela Cole, Kalaya signed her letter of intent to attend Crowley’s Ridge College where she will continue her volleyball career. Cole’s family, friends and teammates were there to show their support and pride in her accomplishment. Donation made to BRTC welding program

John Gillespie of Tumbling Shoals has donated two metal fabricating devices, valued at $3500, to the BRTC welding program. Gillespie contributed one roller bender, which is valued at $1500.

ASU to hold spring commencement ceremony

Arkansas State University will hold its 2022 Spring Commencement ceremony at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 7, in Centennial Bank Stadium. The event is open to the public and seating for family and friends will be first-come, first-choice at the ceremony.

ART SHOW HELD

The watercolor and graphite sketch artistry of Madison Cate May was displayed in the dining area of the Rector Community Center at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, and art patrons took the early part of the afternoon to enjoy the art and light refreshments. RHS SENIORS RECEIVE CERTIFICA TIFICATES TES

Rector High School seniors Hayley Naney (left), Lexi Green (center) and Haven Wilson recently completed the Phlebotomy Program and earned Certificates of Proficiency from BRTC. These young ladies attended classes at RHS in the mornings then traveled to BRTC- Paragould for classes in the afternoons this semester. All three plan to attend BRTC in the fall to further their education.. but the certificates they earned will allow them to work while going to school. (Courtesy photo)
