Gary Prince and Sugar Creek entertain at Ford Room

In the terminology of the MLB season, the Rector Community Museum Ford Room hit a home run with Gary Prince and Sugar Creek which took the stage Thursday, July 20, for the customary Third Thursday concert series. Prince and the band connected immediately with the audience, the front section being filled with fans and family of the band. Those new fans who heard the group for the first time came away wanting to hear more of the traditional country sound of mellow harmonies and magic guitars, keyboard, and drums.

Registration planned at Rector High School

Rector High School will host student registration for the upcoming school year on July 31 and Aug. 1 and 2. Registration for seniors will be conducted from 8 to 11 a.m. on Monday, July 31, with juniors registering from 12 to 3 p.m. that day. The schedule on Tuesday, Aug. 1, includes sophomores from 8 to 11 a.m. while freshmen will register from 12 to 3 p.m. The final day of registration will be Wednesday, Aug. 2, with eighth graders registering from 8 to 11 a.m. while seventh graders will register from 12 to 3 p.m. All of the registrations will be held at Rector High School.

DSO season tickets now available

Season tickets are now on sale for the Delta Symphony Orchestra’s 50th concert season, Symphony, Stars, and Stage. Concerts will include: an October Classical Concert with guest cellist, Jeremy Crosmer; a December Holiday Concert with vocalists, Perry Harper, Maddie Bowden Smith, and Nancy Owens; a February Young Artist Concert featuring the grand prize winners of the DSO’s national competition and multischool junior high chorus; an April Out of This World Concert which will celebrate the region’s solar eclipse with Holst’s The Planets, and the May finale, May the 4th Be With You Concert, featuring the music of John Williams’ Star Wars. Louise Dees Scott Crow Louise Dees Scott Crow, 92, of Piggott, Ark., passed away July 22, 2023, at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Piggott, surrounded by family. She was born on March 3, 1931, in Clay County, Ark., and was the daughter of the late Ebert and Mary Annie (Causey) Dees.

Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum hosting art exhibit

The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum is now hosting Series 3 of The Veneto of Ernest Hemingway; Across the River into the Trees. The exhibit is comprised of beautiful black and white panels.
