BRTC announces GED graduation date

Black River Technical College will hold the 2023 GED graduation ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 20 in the Randolph County Development Center on the Pocahontas Campus.

Piggott “Backpack Bash” set for Aug. 5

Once again for 2023, members of the Piggott Community Alliance have joined forces to organize “Backpack Bash” for students of Piggott Elementary and Piggott High School. This year’s bash will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, on the grounds of the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and the Matilda and Karl Pfeiffer Museum in Piggott.

Piggott School Board meets, FBLA members recognized

Members of the Piggott School Board met in regular session on Thursday, July 13 in the Piggott School District Administration office with all members present. First on the agenda was the Mohawk Moments, with the board hearing from teacher Stacy Peters and some of the FBLA members who attended na-tionals in Atlanta. The group told of their favorite moments of the trip. Superintendent Freddie Bowen praised the group and teacher for all their accomplishments. Peters informed us there were 15 students who attended.

July happenings at the Piggott Public Library

July 20 - Kids Dungeons and Dragons. Game play will be from 3 to 5 p.m. The program is limited to six players and is mostly for beginners from age 11-13, but all ages and skill levels are welcome. To RSVP, call the library at 870-5983666.

Summer Feeding program continues

Under the federallyfunded effort, all those under the age of 18 are provided free meals at local schools. The meals are the same for all children regardless of family income, race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. No registration is required for those attending.

Annual Piggott Fourth of July Picnic held

Cooler than normal temperatures greeted generations of current and former residents, along with visitors and friends for the 96th annual Piggott Fourth of July Picnic and Homecoming Celebration. The annual picnic, which serves to provide continued maintenance and upkeep for the local cemetery, kicked-off Monday evening with the first four pageants, along with an armband night on the midway, and the Mohawk Alumni Baseball Game at Independence Park.
