Kathleen Mowery and Michael McMurray announce the birth of their son, Wendell Stephen McMurray Mowery. He was born June 20, 2023, at UAMS in Little Rock. He weighed in at one pound. Grandparents are the late Jim and Vera Mowery of Piggott.
This fall the Delta Symphony Orchestra will be launching the Delta Youth Symphony Orchestra (DYSO) in Northeast Arkansas. In the first year of the program the DYSO is open to string students (violin, viola, cello, bass, harp, and piano) ages 12 to 18 who have at least one year of instruction on their instrument. Auditions for the 2023-2024 school year will be held on Aug. 27 in Jonesboro. There is no cost to audition. During the school year, the DYSO will meet two times a month and will present two performances (fall and spring) for family and friends. In order to participate in the DYSO, students must have access to their instrument. Tuition is $150 for the full school year. Tuition waivers will be considered on a need basis. Linda Sue (Marlar) Gamble Linda Sue (Marlar) Gamble, 86, of Kennett, Mo., departed from this life on June 22, 2023, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
A full schedule of pageants from birth to 21 years and up will once again accompany the Piggott 4th of July picnic. The entry fee will be $30 and registration starts 30 minutes prior to pageant start time and sign up will be behind the stage. Ages birth to four years old will be casual dress with ages five and up being pageant dress.
1983 The City of Piggott will be conducting a smoke testing of the City Sewer System during the periods of June 27 through August 31, 1983. The C & C Amusement Company will again be providing the carnival rides for this year’s 4th of July Picnic.
Shirley Jean Granger Shirley Jean Granger, 87, a resident of Independence, Mo., until recently moving to The Madison Senior Living, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 22, 2023. She was born May 15, 1936 to Lorne and Velma (Heape) Wallace in Saint Louis, Mo.
The carnival will onceagain return for this year’s event, and armbands are on sale now for $35 each. They’ll be $40 after June 30, and at the picnic grounds on July 4. There will be no advanced sale of armbands for Monday, July 3. There is a Monday night special only in which armbands will be $30 and can be purchased at the picnic grounds. Armbands are currently on sale at Fred Ort Insurance Agency, Piggott State Bank, First National Bank-Piggott Banking Center, The Nest, Treasure Chest, Cox Lumber Company and Al Williams and Sons Nursery.
