Runnin’ Scared 5K scheduled

The 6th Annual Runnin’ Scared 5K will be hosted at Pumpkin Hollow on Saturday, Sept. 16. The racecourse will be a mix of road and off-road running. Runners will run through a local cemetery and through the grounds of Pumpkin Hollow. “Who knows…you may find a few “friends” along the way as well! Be sure to bring your flashlights or head lamps as the race will take place after dark,” a spokesperson commented The race will start at 8 p.m. and registration is underway at www.runsignup.com/ Race/AR/Piggot/ RunninScared5k. Deadline to be guaranteed a shirt is Sept. 1.

Maynard alumni and friends reunion set

Maynard alumni and friends of all ages, will come from various places, as well as local, and gather for an evening of fun at 5 p.m. on Saturday evening, Sept. 16, 2023, at the Maynard High School Cafeteria for the 33rd Maynard Alumni and Friends reunion. Many classes will be hosting reunions at this time. Please advise if your class and guests wish to be seated together.

Clay County Fair Parade entries being sought

The annual Clay County Fair Parade is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, and entrants are now being recruited. In keeping with tradition, the parade will begin at the First Baptist Church of Piggott, located a block west of the square on West Main Street, and will end at the fairgrounds. Line up and registration will start at 9:15 a.m. at the church and entrants are asked to be lined up by 9:30 a.m.

Missouri Mid-South Gospel Music Singing Convention planned

The Missouri Mid-South Gospel Music Singing Convention will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 and Saturday, Sept. 16. The event is being held at the New Covenant Church located at 3396 Kanell Blvd. (PP Hwy.) in Poplar Bluff, Mo. MC’s will be Joyce and Ron Fowler of 89.5 FM and Rick Jones of 106.1 FM. Eight special guests will be featured nightly. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Keep Arkansas Beautiful to collaborate with film festivals for statewide video contest

The Fort Smith International Film Festival, Ozark Media Arts Festival and Keep Arkansas Beautiful Commission will host a statewide video contest for high school students (grades nine-12) to create a 30-second video commercial. The contest will run until Sept. 24 and winners will be announced Oct. 5 at the Ozark Media Arts Festival in Springdale. There is no fee to enter the contest.

Lake Frierson State Park to host Sunset Kayak Cruises

Lake Frierson State Park will host two Sunset Kayak Cruises in the month of September: Saturday, Sept. 16 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 30 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Both events will begin at the park’s Day Use Area Marina located at 7904 Hwy. 141 S., Jonesboro. Admission for each event is $18.00 per adult and $12.00 per child ages six-12. Children under the age of six are not permit-ted to participate in kayak tours. Registered attendees will be provided with recreational kayaks, paddles, and lifejackets. Guests are advised to bring water and sunscreen.

Demolition derby set Sept. 16 at fairground

A demolition derby will be held Saturday, Sept.16 in conjunction with the Clay County Fair. The event will be held at the Clay County Fairgrounds. Peewee starts at 6:30 p.m. and the adult competition at 7 p.m. Those who want more information may call Rick Hardy at 573-344-1110.
