Maynard Pioneer Days planned

The 43rd annual Maynard Pioneer Days is set Thursday, Sept. 14 through Saturday, Sept. 16. They’ll kick things off this year with “School Night” at 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Pioneer Park and Museum. The festivities continue on Friday with craft booths, food and a free concert by Cory Jackson at 7 p.m. The annual parade is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, with other activities including a turkey shoot at 1 p.m. There will also be crafts, concessions, blacksmithing demonstrations and music from Dixon Street. Grace Ann Jorman Grace Ann Jorman, 77, of Piggott, Ark., passed away August 28, 2023, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould, Ark. She was born on August 24, 1946, in Patterson, Ark., and was the daughter of the late Harry and Nora (Fry) Massey.

Clay County Fair Parade entries being sought

The annual Clay County Fair Parade is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, and entrants are now being recruited. In keeping with tradition, the parade will begin at the First Baptist Church of Piggott, located a block west of the square on West Main Street, and will end at the fairgrounds. Line up and registration will start at 9:15 a.m. at the church and entrants are asked to be lined up by 9:30 a.m.

Demolition derby set Sept. 16 at fairground

A demolition derby will be held Saturday, Sept.16 in conjunction with the Clay County Fair. The event will be held at the Clay County Fairgrounds. Peewee starts at 6:30 p.m. and the adult competition at 7 p.m. Those who want more information may call Rick Hardy at 573-344-1110.

Missouri Mid-South Gospel Music Singing Convention planned

The Missouri Mid-South Gospel Music Singing Convention will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 and Saturday, Sept. 16. The event is being held at the New Covenant Church located at 3396 Kanell Blvd. (PP Hwy.) in Poplar Bluff, Mo. MC’s will be Joyce and Ron Fowler of 89.5 FM and Rick Jones of 106.1 FM. Eight special guests will be featured nightly. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Fishing rodeo Saturday at Heritage Park

The City of Piggott Parks and Recreation and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is set to host the 2023 annual family fishing rodeo at Heritage Park. This year’s rodeo will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 9. The event is open to those 15 and under. Organizers note only one pole may be used for each competitor, and there is a three fish limit. Arkansas fishing licenses are required for adults.
