The Rector Labor Day Picnic Committee can not guarantee crisp, fall weather, but they have kept their eyes and ears poised for important weather forecasts given the recent excessive heat from the high-pressure dome poised over the Mid-South. The Weather Channel forecasts highs between 88 and 94 degrees on the critical days of Labor Day weekend for northeast Arkansas.
Agriculture and agriculture related professions are the number one employer in Clay County. The 4-H Youth Leadership Citizenship Team agriculture tour took place on Wednesday, Aug. 23. Eighteen junior students on the YLCT from Piggott, Rector, and Corning High Schools had the opportunity to participate in the tour.
Dr. Hillard Duckworth was a much admired and loved physician in Piggott and many regarded him as a friend not just their family doctor. His granddaughter, Hillary Rae French is not only his namesake but is following his lead to become a physician.

According to a report from the Clay County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023, at approximately 12:46 p.m., a Clay County Deputy made a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Blazer just outside of McDougal. There were two occupants in the vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver, 42-year-old Tammy D. Lutes of McDougal. The driver’s window would not roll down, so she opened the door of the vehicle and a baggy with a white substance was in plain view. The passenger of the vehicle was 43-year-old Danielle Householder of Paragould. The deputy got both individuals out of the vehicle and conducted a search of the vehicle. Both subjects were arrested for possession of controlled substance meth and possession of controlled substance marijuana. They were both transported to The Clay County Detention Center.
