Bette Bumpers Mills

Bette Bumpers Mills, 89, of Piggott,Ark., passed away September 20, 2022, at her home in Piggott.

She was born on April 18, 1933, in Wabash, Ark., and was the daughter of the late E. Clay Bumpers and Lila Jewel Golden Bumpers.

Bette was a retired school teacher. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Piggott, where she was active in the UMW. She also was involved in the Piggott Hayes Home Extension. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, Cardinal’s baseball and Pokeno. She especially loved spending time with her family, whom she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dotty Patridge and husband Jim Patridge; brother, John C. Bumpers and wife Patricia Bumpers; and nephew, John Clay Bumpers, Jr.

Bette is survived by her children, Dorothy Gay (Mills) Johnson and husband Glenn of Piggott, David C. Mills and wife Connie of Memphis, Tenn., and Mary Ann Mills of Sherwood, Ark.; grandchildren: Kyle G. Johnson of Piggott, and Anne E. Mills of Memphis, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Landon Blake Johnson and Lennox Gay Johnson; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home, graveside services followed at 1:30 p.m. at Piggott Cemetery with Mark Trout officiating and Danny Baldwin assisting. Pallbearers were David Gregory, Danny Baldwin, Terry Johnson, Dale Johnson, Bobby Coyle, and David Hill. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to the United Methodist Church in Piggott or the Piggott Public Library.
