Byron Thomas (Bud) Hill

Byron Thomas (Bud) Hill, 87, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away October 5, 2024, at Piggott Healthcare and Senior Living. He was born on August 20, 1937, in Piggott, and was the son of the late Thomas Edgar and Effie Mae (Bailey) Hill.
After graduating from Piggott High School, he served his country as a weatherman in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. A few years later, while living in Pacific, Missouri, Byron began a long career as a surveyor, working for Clayton Engineering for about 34 years. He enjoyed being a surveyor very much. The job took him to many different states and allowed him to make many lifelong friends. While in Pacific, he also spent five years keeping football stats for a very good friend who was a coach. Byron had other hobbies, which included ham radios and radio controlled airplanes. But what he enjoyed the most was watching and talking Razorback football and Cardinal baseball.
Byron always looked forward to coming to the Piggott Fourth of July Picnic, where he was able to visit and reminisce with old friends and classmates. In 2010, he decided to return to his hometown of Piggott where he lived for the remainder of his life. Many hours were spent at The Diner drinking coffee with old buddies and retelling stories of long ago. Byron had an amazing memory, and he was always eager to share details about people he remembered and events that happened during the early years of his life in Piggott.
Byron was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Effie Hill; one brother, Keith Hill; one sister, Floreine (Flo) Johnson; three brothers-in-law, Merrel Johnson, Virgil Buffington and Curtis Edwards.
Survivors include two sisters, Ann Buffington of Silver City, New Mexico and Norma Edwards of Tucson, Arizona; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and special friends.
At Byron’s request, there will be no memorial service. He was a very special person, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
