Carl Doyne (“CD”) Parrish

Carl Doyne (“CD”) Parrish of Paragould, Ark., passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the age of sixty-five years old.
CD was born in Fort Smith, Ark., on January 30, 1959, to Doyne Parrish of Rector, Ark., and Peggy Barlow of Piggott, Ark. He graduated from Rector High School in 1977 and accumulated the hours he needed to qualify for pharmacy school at Arkansas State University. CD graduated from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock and earned his license to practice in 1983. He worked as a pharmacist in various hospitals and pharmacies in northeast Arkansas for his entire career of more than forty years.
CD’s defining trait was his generosity. He dedicated his life to helping others, both professionally and personally, and had a way of connecting with people that was truly effortless. CD touched countless lives with his selflessness and willingness to offer his time and resources to support those in need. That generosity extended well beyond just his family and many friends.
CD also was defined by his intelligence, honesty, wit, and sense of adventure. He knew everything about everything, much to the admiration (and/or frustration) of his loved ones. His honesty and bluntness were equally admired (and, at times, frustrating). CD loved to travel and to share his love of travel with friends and family. He traveled extensively across the United States and abroad and always was planning his next trip. CD followed many sports with a passion but especially loved playing the ponies at Oaklawn and cheering for (or cursing) the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved music, including jazz and classic rock, Corvettes, and the theatre. CD’s interests were as diverse and unique as he was.
At bottom, CD lived his life to the fullest and left a lasting impression on every person who was lucky enough to know him. He was a support system for his family and friends and loved his people fiercely. CD will be greatly missed by all.
CD is survived by his mother, Peggy Barlow; his sister and brother-in-law, Joan (“Joni”) and Ken Sample of Germantown, Tenn.; his nephew, Jake Sample, and wife, Courtney Sample, parents of his grandnephew, Miles Sample, all of Germantown, Tenn.; his niece, Mallory Hall of Birmingham, Ala.; his Uncle Jerry, Aunt Linda, and cousins, Mike, Melissa (“Missy”), Kristi, and Brian; his best friend since first grade, Marty; and a multitude of other friends and colleagues. He also is survived by three beloved cats he rescued and raised from birth.
Services were held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Irby Funeral Home in Rector. Visitation was held from 3 until 4 p.m. with the funeral services beginning at 4 p.m., and a short graveside service at Woodland Heights Cemetery followed.
