Rebecca Finley, of Piggott, is among 2,514 students named to the Mississippi State University fall 2023 Deans’ List. To be named to the Deans’ List, a student must have achieved a GPA between 3.5 and 3.79, based on a 4.0 scale, while completing at least 12 semester hours of coursework with no incomplete grades or grades lower than a C.

Simmons of Rector named to Fall 2023 Dean’s List in U of A’s Fulbright College Sophie Simmons, of Rector, was named to the fall 2023 Dean’s List in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas.

Dr. Les Johnson will be the guest speaker for a program planned at the Eclipse Block Party Monday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center. There will be a $10 admission which will include eclipse glasses and an eclipse box of treats. The viewing site will be held on the grounds across from the museum. Those attending are encouraged to bring your lawn chair and set up will begin at 9 a.m.

My Valentine’s Shoppe event is planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Piggott Community Center located at 161 E. Pfeiffer St. Photography, crafts, food, and much more will be offered along with raffling of prizes. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Feb. 10. The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center is currently taking ap-plications for student volunteers for 2024. Any interested Clay County junior and senior high school students may call the museum at 870-5983487 for more information.

The American Red Cross continues to experience an emergency blood shortage as severe winter weather has further impacted the ability to rebuild the blood supply. Blood donors are urged to give now to help ensure lifesaving medical procedures are not delayed.

The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture will host the annual rice and soybean production meeting Tuesday, Feb. 13 at the M.B.Ainley Community Center in Corning. The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. with lunch catered by Cast Iron Kitchen and Catering. Speakers for the event include Stewart Runsick, County Extension Agent-Staff Chair; Dr. Jarrod Hardke, Extension Rice Agronomist; Dr. Jeremy Ross, Extension Soybean Agronomist and Dr. Hunter Biram, Extension Agriculture Economist. NRCS will provide updates followed by industry sponsor comments.
