The Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View will host nine music events at the park’s 1,000-seat indoor music venue, Ozark Highlands Theater, during their upcoming season April 2 October 26. Evening concerts, music contests and festivals will feature top talent from the Ozarks and beyond, including award-winning songwriters, bands and dancers.

Early voting for the 2024 Preferential Primary is underway at the Piggott and Corning Community Centers. Voting hours will be 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Saturday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, March 2 voting hours will be 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Early voting ends at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 4.
When I was growing up in the early 1980s, we had a weekly newspaper in our town. There was a woman assigned to cover our little neighborhood. I remember her calling each week to ask my mother what was new in our family. Did Jeremy make the honor roll this quarter? Had we gone on vacation recently? Did we get a new pet? She would take this information from anyone in the neighborhood who was willing to share it and would write a column each week. When the paper came out on Wednesdays, my mother was always excited to read what was going on in the neighborhood. Everyone on our street knew each other. We played outside with the kids every day until dusk. My parents were in a bowling league with our neighbors. We had a block party in the street in the summer. When a new family moved in everyone welcomed them and introduced themselves. I guess you could say it was a great community.
The Clay County Extension Service is offering its annual pesticide applicator training at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the Extension office located at 148 East Main in Piggott. The training is required for ag-riculture producers to qualify for license to purchase restricted pesticides. The class costs $20 and those interested must be present for the entire training session to be certified for a license for the Arkansas State Plant Board.
