Pine Bluff, AR — The Small Farm Program at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is recruiting participants for its Beginning Farmers Class, Dr. Henry English, director of the program, said.
Abbey Thompson of Piggott, has been named to the Southeast Missouri State University President’s List for academic achievement during the fall 2024 semester.
In keeping with event tradition, a full slate of pageants will be held in conjunction with the 2024 edition of the Rector Labor Day Picnic. This year’s pageants are scheduled for both Sunday, Sept. 1, and Monday, Sept. 2, on the beauty revue stand of Memorial Park. Pageant organizer Jade Simpson noted that the Petite Miss, Preteen Miss and Junior Miss Rector pageants are closed to Rector students only until Aug. 26. “If we do not have enough participants by the deadline, we will then open the pageants to others,” commented Simpson. Registration will be 30 minutes prior to start time for anyone who is not pre-registered. Registration forms will be sent home the first week of school.
In celebration of 80 years of the Miss Rector pageant past Miss Rector Queens are encouraged to participate in a walk-out during the Ms. Rector pageant at 8 p.m.
The children of Homer and Dora Causey will be hosting a family reunion beginning at 12 noon on Saturday, June 29, at the Pollard Picnic ground. All family and friends are invited to attend. Organizers note a potluck meal will be served.
The annual Pollard Picnic, to benefit the New Hope Cemetery, will be held Saturday, July 13, in Pollard. As usual, this year’s picnic will include a full schedule of beauty pageants for contestants of all ages.
The traditional slate of beauty pageants are scheduled in conjunction with this year’s St. Francis Picnic, set for Saturday, July 20, at the picnic grounds in that community.
